Di-Agnostic Musings
I am a card carrying member of the United Methodist Church for reasons I won't go into right here. My parents and family are Catholic. My ex-fiancee was Jewish.
I do not consider myself Atheist, nor really Agnostic - more of a "Di-Agnostic"...being the engineer/explorer type perhaps?
As I get older, little details in the world, that may have been in front of my face for years - jump out at me for no apparent reason. Like the dollar bill in my pocket did the other day.
For example, I've always been taught in school that the separation of Church and State in America was a good thing and a fundamental principle of the United States.
I am very tolerant of religions and beliefs other than my own. How could I not be? - there are roughly 4500 unique identified religions - dare I assume the 1/4500 of the beliefs that I personally embrace are the "correct" and "real" beliefs?
Out of these 4500 religions "God" may or may not play a roll in the grand scheme of things. So why, in 1957 did t
he Federal government demand and require that all US paper currency carry the phrase "In God We Trust"? And why in 1954 did Congress order inclusion of the words "Under God" into the nation's Pledge of Allegiance? This was clearly not something our "founding fathers" had in mind... is it?
